Open Access journals refreshed by Utrecht University Library

Utrecht University Library Open Access Journals , or Uopen Journals, provides a publishing platform for ambitious researchers or editorial boards (Utrecht University related) that wish to publish an online open access journal. On a daily basis the publishing team offers advice and support to editorial boards regarding various publishing processes, online marketing, and open access business models. Using an incubator model they help leading the peer reviewed journals to stability and growth.

Recently 14 journals in the Uopen Journals portfolio have been transferred to brand-new OJS driven websites, provided by Ubiquity Press. This transfer included several new features and refreshing designs. So, reason enough to reintroduce the journals!

Humanities

BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review (BMGN-LCHR) is the leading academic journal for the history of the Netherlands and Belgium. The journal is published by the Royal Netherlands Historical Society (KNHG). Since 1877 it distributes book reviews, research and review articles in all historical sub disciplines starting from the Middle Ages. The journal keeps renewing itself with modern theme issues and close connections with communities such as Historici.nl.

De Zeventiende Eeuw (DZE) publishes high-quality articles on the history of the Low Countries in the long seventeenth century. The journal covers a wide range of subjects pertaining to the rich material and immaterial legacy of the Netherlands, including literature, religion, political and intellectual history, and the visual arts. The last mentioned subject is discussed extensively in DZE’s most recent issue ‘Arts on the move’, including color illustrations!

The journal Incontri. Rivista europea di Studi Italiani is an international forum for academic publications related to Italian history and culture. Because Incontri combines its Italian perspective to several humanistic disciplines such as history, literature, linguistics, philosophy, music, cinema, theatre and art history, the journal is relevant for a cross curricular readership. Incontri is supported by Werkgroep Italië Studies (WIS).

The International Journal for History, Culture and Modernity (HCM) offers a global perspective on our modern culture and its history. HCM stimulates research and lively academic exchange in the humanities by working with affiliated authors and expertise from all over the world. For a multidisciplinary audience it publishes high standard academic articles such as: ‘How Russia ‘Colonized Itself’…’, ‘Back to the Future?…’ and ‘The Resettlement of Social Misfits…’.

Liber Quarterly (LQ) strives to form a bridge between the scholars of the Library and Information Sciences and the professionals in academic and research libraries. LQ aims to do so by publishing not only theoretical contributions, but also examples of best practices that cover all aspects of modern research librarianship and information delivery. The journal is directly connected to LIBER Europe (the Association of European Research Libraries).

RELIEF is an international, peer-reviewed journal that addresses researchers and professionals interested in French and Francophone literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the present. The journal discusses both well-known and lesser-known genres and authors, as well as works in need of rediscovery. Many of RELIEF’s affiliates are associated with the Stichting van Romanisten aan de Nederlandse Universiteiten, but the journal gladly invites all early-stage researchers to submit their work.

The journal Studium publishes articles and book reviews about the history of scholarship, science, medicine, technology and universities. Studium does not limit its content to a particular period or place. It does give special attention to the Low Countries and its former colonies though, like in this recent article: ‘Dutchman, lazier than any other race of mankind…’. Studium is affiliated to the Genootschap Gewina as well as the Huygens ING – KNAW.

TS∙>Tijdschrift voor Tijdschriftstudies | Journal for the Study of Periodical Media functions as a platform for researchers in multiple academic disciplines that use periodicals as a source or object of their study. The journal aims to keep its audience (academics and all others interested) updated on recent and widespread developments in the study of periodicals. The latest issue for example elaborates on the well-known (newspaper) database Delpher.

Social Sciences

ERLACS – European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies | Revista Europea de Estudios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe is an interdisciplinary journal containing English and Spanish publications from researchers and historians. ERLACS is published twice a year by CEDLA (Amsterdam) with academic contributions focused on Latin American and Caribbean culture. ERLACS is now 50 years old and still growing as an open access journal. In the 100th ‘anniversary issue’ ERLACS nicely portrays its central vision from different viewpoints.

The International Journal of the Commons (IJC) is dedicated to furthering the understanding of regulations, standards and institutions that are needed to enable the collective use and management of resources. These resources, commons, can range from forests or climate systems to the internet and knowledge published in open access journals. The articles in IJC often have a multidisciplinary nature, like the inspiring article about (Elinor) Ostrom’s law.

The Journal of Social Intervention : Theory and Practice (JSI) publishes Dutch and English articles based on available academic research and reflections on practice in social interventions. The practical perspective of the articles makes JSI an interesting journal for researchers as well as practitioners. Social intervention is a relevant concept in a broad range of domains within the social sciences. Therefore JSI focuses on several theme’s such as:  social work, organizational development, adult education, social pedagogy and youth care.

Religion and Gender (R&G) is dedicated to the systematic study of gender and religion in an international and interdisciplinary perspective. The academic journal seeks to investigate gender at the intersection of feminism, (homo)sexuality, masculinity and diversity. Where gender and religion cross each other, R&G analyses and reflects on the complex relations and confrontations. Substantial hypes such as Pussy Riot are also explored in a wider perspective.

Law

The International Journal for Court Administration (IJCA) publishes academic contributions on the governance and management of judicial organizations throughout the entire world. IJCA particularly strives to advance knowledge on the functioning of court, judicial and justice systems and how their administration, organization and operational processes can be improved. IJCA is the journal of The International Association for Court Administration.

The Utrecht Law Review offers an international academic platform for cross-border legal research with interfaces in philosophy, economics, politics and public administration. It was established in 2005 and at that time the first open access and peer-reviewed legal journal in the Netherlands. The journal is now affiliated with the Utrecht University School of law and has grown into a respected journal with an international readership.

Maak kennis met de Open Access tijdschriften van Uopen Journals

Utrecht University Library Open Access Journals, ook wel Uopen Journals, stelt een publicatieplatform beschikbaar voor ambitieuze (Utrechtse) onderzoekers en redacties die een online open access tijdschrift willen publiceren. Dagelijks ondersteunt en adviseert het team van Uopen Journals tijdschriftredacties bij diverse publicatieprocessen, online marketing, onderhandelingen en open access verdienmodellen. Met een incubator model leiden wij de peer reviewed tijdschriften naar stabiliteit en groei.

Zo zijn 14 journals in ons portfolio onlangs overgebracht naar gloednieuwe OJS-gestuurde websites, opgeleverd door Ubiquity Press. Deze transfer ging gepaard met verschillende nieuwe features en een geheel nieuwe look. Reden genoeg om ‘onze’ tijdschriften eens opnieuw voor te stellen!

Geesteswetenschappen

BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review (BMGN-LCHR)
is hét toonaangevende academische  tijdschrift over de geschiedenis van Nederland en België. BMGN wordt uitgegeven door het Koninklijk Nederlands Historisch Genootschap en publiceert al vanaf 1877 vele boekrecensies, research en review artikelen uit alle historische sub-disciplines vanaf de Middeleeuwen. Het tijdschrift blijft zichzelf vernieuwen met moderne thema-issues en verbondenheid met communities zoals Historici.nl.

De Zeventiende Eeuw (DZE) publiceert artikelen over de geschiedenis van de Nederlanden in de lange zeventiende eeuw. Het tijdschrift beslaat een brede reeks onderwerpen uit de materiële en immateriële vroegmoderne geschiedenis waaronder literatuur, religie, politieke en intellectuele geschiedenis en de beeldende kunsten. Over dit laatste kunstthema wordt uitgebreid geschreven in het meest recente issue ‘Arts on the move’, inclusief illustraties in kleur!

Het tijdschrift Incontri. Rivista europea di Studi Italiani is een internationaal platform voor academische publicaties m.b.t. de Italiaanse geschiedenis en cultuur. Doordat zij een Italiaans perspectief koppelt aan diverse geesteswetenschappelijke vakgebieden, zoals geschiedenis, literatuur, linguïstiek, filosofie, muziek, film, theater en kunstgeschiedenis is dit tijdschrift interessant voor een vakoverschrijdend lezerspubliek. Incontri wordt ondersteund door de Werkgroep Italië Studies (WIS).

Liber Quarterly (LQ) streeft ernaar om een brug te slaan tussen de wetenschappers van ‘Bibliotheek- en Informatiewetenschappen’ en de professionals in universiteits- en onderzoeksbibliotheken. LQ wil dit bereiken door niet alleen theoretische bijdragen maar ook goede praktijkvoorbeelden te publiceren die alle aspecten van het hedendaags bibliotheekwezen omvatten. Het tijdschrift is direct verbonden aan LIBER Europe (de associatie van Europese onderzoeksbibliotheken).

RELIEF is een internationaal academisch tijdschrift dat zich richt op onderzoekers en vakmensen die geïnteresseerd zijn in Franstalige literatuur en cultuur vanaf de middeleeuwen tot aan de moderne tijd. RELIEF besteedt aandacht aan bekende auteurs, maar ook de (nog) niet ontdekte auteurs komen aan bod. Het tijdschrift vindt een groot deel van haar achterban bij de Stichting van Romanisten aan de Nederlandse Universiteiten, maar nodigt álle beginnende onderzoekers van harte uit om werk ter publicatie aan te bieden.

Het tijdschrift Studium publiceert artikelen en boekbesprekingen over de geschiedenis van wetenschap, geneeskunde, technologie en universiteiten. Studium beperkt zich in haar publicaties niet tot een bepaalde periode of plaats, maar geeft wel speciale aandacht aan de Lage Landen en haar voormalige koloniën zoals in het recente artikel: ‘Dutchman, lazier than any other race of mankind…’. Het tijdschrift is verbonden aan zowel het Genootschap Gewina als het Huygens ING – KNAW.

TS∙>Tijdschrift voor Tijdschriftstudies | Journal for the Study of Periodical Media functioneert als een platform voor onderzoekers in meerdere wetenschappelijke disciplines die tijdschriften gebruiken als bron of object van hun studie. Het tijdschrift streeft ernaar haar doelgroepen (wetenschappers en alle andere geïnteresseerden) op de hoogte te houden van zowel recente als verreikende ontwikkelingen in ‘the study of periodicals’. Het laatst verschenen issue staat bijvoorbeeld in teken van de (kranten)database Delpher. 

Sociale Wetenschappen

ERLACS – European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies | Revista Europea de Estudios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe is een interdisciplinair tijdschrift met Engelse en Spaanse publicaties van wetenschappers en historici. ERLACS wordt tweemaal per jaar gepubliceerd door CEDLA (Amsterdam) met onderzoek speciaal gericht op Latijns Amerika en de Cariben. Het 100e ‘anniversary issue’ schetst een mooi beeld van de centrale visie van ERLACS dat dit jaar 50 jaar bestaat en nog steeds groeit als open access tijdschrift.

Het is gewijd aan het verbeteren van kennis over de regels, normen én instituties die nodig zijn om het gezamenlijk gebruik en beheer van middelen mogelijk te maken. De artikelen in IJC zijn multidisciplinair van aard, lees bijvoorbeeld het inspirerende artikel over (Elinor) Ostrom’s Law.

Deze praktische invalshoek maakt JSI interessant voor zowel onderzoekers als vakmensen. Sociale interventie is bovendien een relevant begrip in een breed scala van sociaalwetenschappelijke disciplines. JSI richt zich daarom op diverse thema’s zoals: sociaal-maatschappelijk werk, organisatieontwikkeling, volwassenenonderwijs, sociale pedagogiek en jeugdzorg.

Religion and Gender (R&G) is gewijd aan de systematische bestudering van gender en religie in een internationaal en interdisciplinair perspectief. Het wetenschappelijke tijdschrift streeft ernaar gender te onderzoeken op het kruispunt van feminisme, (homo)seksualiteit, mannelijkheid en diversiteit. Daar waar gender en religie elkaar raken, analyseert en reflecteert R&G op de complexe relaties en confrontaties. Ook relevante hypes als Pussy Riot worden in een breder perspectief geplaatst.

Recht

Het International Journal for Court Administration (IJCA) publiceert academische bijdragen over het bestuur en beheer van rechterlijke organisaties. IJCA streeft naar een kennisvergroting van de wijze waarop rechtbanken over de hele wereld functioneren en hoe hun bestuur, organisatie en bedrijfsvoering kan worden verbeterd. IJCA is het tijdschrift van The International Association for Court Administration.

Utrecht Law Review biedt een internationaal wetenschappelijk forum voor grensoverschrijdend  juridisch onderzoek, met raakvlakken in filosofie, economie, politiek en openbaar bestuur. Het werd opgericht in 2005 en was destijds het eerste open access, peer reviewed juridische tijdschrift in Nederland. Het tijdschrift is verbonden aan de Utrecht University School of Law en inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een gerespecteerd tijdschrift met een internationaal lezerspubliek.
